Pour une leçon, c'en est une, et pas des plus "simples" à gérer. Car elle vient d'un artiste qui cherche à vivre de son art, et rien que pour ça, respect.

After buying all your CD's (and going to your concerts when you are in the neighbourhood) I was afraid of buying this one because I do not like singing. But now I have heard the CD I already bought it. (I like the site of Tim Berne where you can listen to some music so you can hear what you order).

Thanks for buying the CD. But please know that most people will NOT buy a CD that they can get for free. I offer many videos that will give a good idea of the sound of the group. I also have a myspace page just like most other musicians that has samples of the CDs.
I just want everyone to understand that giving away the entire disc for free does not help the musician at all. It only makes things harder for us.
I hope that everyone else who also downloaded my CDs for free will also buy them. I depend on the sale of my music to continue my work.
Please support musicians and artists.

Il y aura encore de la musique, et d'autres choses, en passsant, mais certainement plus d'alboumes d'artistes en entier.
En plus, j'ai un immense restect pour l'artiste & l'homme Ellery Eskelin. C'est actuellement l'un des musiciens les plus importants (?) pour moi.
Alors que ce soit lui qui me demande de ne pas offrir gratuitement ces alboumes (même en format mp3) est pour moi une obligation.
Est-ce que j'achète tous les alboumes que je découvre (et que j'aime) sur internet ?
La réponse est non.
J'en achète, bien entendu (et notamment sur le site d'EE, chez les Allumés du Jazz, chez Orkhêstra, chez les labels indépendants,...), mais certainement pas dans les proportions qui correspondent à ce que je découvre sur internet.
Même pour ce qui m'arrache parfois des frissons.
Les alboumes restent encore trop chers, et la part qui revient à l'artiste encore trop petite.
Internet offre la possibilité d'avoir gratuitement de telles quantités de disques (que d'ailleurs jamais je n'aurais acheté, vu justement la quantité) que cela devient parfois un peu ridicule : combien de vies fait-il pour tout écouter.
Au temps du vinyle, parfois j'écoutais le même alboume plus de dix fois de suite....
Aujourd'hui, rares sont les alboumes que j'écoute en boucle aussi souvent.
Ceux d'EE en font partie.
Alors oui, achetez les alboumes, allez voir les artistes sur scène.
Pour échapper aux "loisirs" de masse de cette société d'amusement, socle d'un fascisme mou.
Certains liens sont déjà effacés, d'autres vont encore rester un peu, mais eu bout, il n'en restera que très peu.
Préparez vos sens !

C'est sur que, sans d'abord les avoir ecoutes chez EdKob, il y a beaucoup de disques que je n'aurais jamais achetes. Et puis il y a les disques que je n'aurais pas achetes si je n'avais pas d'abord rencontres les artistes chez EdKob. C'est-a-dire que l'equation 'un download=un disque de moins achete' n'est pas evident. Et c'est meme le contraire qui est vrai...
Mais que peut-il faire, ce brave EdKob, quand on lui demande de cesser? On passe ici parce qu'il a du gout - et qu'il soit fiable, en plus! -, parce qu'il a un reel passion pour la musique, parce qu'il a envie de partager ses passions avec nous. Et que peut-il donc faire, honnete homme qu'il est, quand un artiste lui demande de s'arreter?
Reste plus que de nous passer les bons avis et les liens, M. EdKob, vous qui etes le guide le plus sur que je connaisse! (C'est pas que chuis tjrs d'acc, remarque...)

et oui bien nous achetons des cd pour ne pas laisser mourrir les artistes et la musique vivante!
a ce sujet je me suis précipité sur le dernier aldo romano que j'ai acheté pour qu'il puisse manger mais cela ne suffit pas le cd... il me faut maintenant aller sur f**c.com ou autre pour télécharger 2 titres qui sont pas sur le cd et oui... aldo reprendrait bien du dessert.

If you download a CD of mine instead of paying for it you are taking money from me. I get paid the same if you come to my concert or not.
I paid many thousands of dollars of my own money to make "Quiet Music". I still have debt from this project. I have a family to feed and bills to pay just like everyone else.
I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PROVIDE YOU WITH FREE MUSIC!

im just saiyng that you artists take some time to figure that the market of cd's can be substituted by more markets like concerts, like mp3, like other things like TAKE YOUR MUSIC TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD.

maybe you ar wasting some part of the world with your decision. money grows everywere. even here. by some way.

I have played in Portugal many times. My CDs are also available in Portugal although like many jazz records, sometimes you have to look a bit harder. But it is also very easy to order my CDs through the mail. If you have the money there is no reason for you to steal music.
Unfortunately, your ideas about musicians are not true. It is very simple...if stealing music helps artists then artists would be doing much better now than before. But the opposite is true. Most musicians find it more difficult to make a living when people steal their music. It does not create more concert opportunities.
And no, I've never had any reason to download free music from Rapidshare or anywhere else. If I want free music I can listen to the radio or I can go to myspace where there is more music than anyone can possibly have enough time to listen to. I do not need to steal from other musicians.
I do not want to start a long argument or discussion. I just want to offer the experience of someone who has been making a living in jazz music for many years. If you do not agree then I can not change your mind.
But please do not steal my music and tell me you are helping me. That is insulting.

Just thought I would drop my 2 cents. I do download music. But I try to keep it to dead artists and unpublished bootlegs. I see that this frees up my music budget to spend on less well know artists. I will download a Miles Davis record this week and buy the Ellery Eskelin record. Not a perfect system but it seems like a compromise, and my money definatley goes to more hungry musicians because of it. When I want the instant gratification of an album right now by an artist like Ellery there is often some like iTunes where i can purchase it with a really fast and easy download (although I hear iTunes gives very little back to the artists so I try other places. I like artist's self published CDs so CD Baby is good. You can often buy Mp3's there too.)
Basically Afonso, you might justify yourself by saying you buy a Cd or tickets of an artist you would otherwise not hear but it just is not true. Ripping off Ellery Eskelin and ripping off a Hollywood blockbuster is not the same thing.
There are so many ways to hear an artist like Ellery or anyone on this website. Try Spotify. Also there is still nothing like holding the real thing in full quality with notes and information, especially when it is on vinyl! Bring back vinyl!!!
Honestly this website is a bit fucked up. I did find out about some music i didn't know existed but I wish the admin would reconsider his approach. You don't have to give all the music away to make this blog good. You could link to myspace, youtube, Artist webapages, iTunes, CD Baby, Spotify, Amazon plays clips of Cds now... Shit... you just really don't need to fuck the musicians whose music you like to share it with us.
